Description

Awarded a coveted Two-Star Prize in the Great Taste Awards 2021
  • Single source Mountain Manuka that comes from an extremely remote mountain wildlife reserve in New Zealand.
  • See the analysis of this Manuka at an independent laboratory
  • Active 20+ (MGO 829) - just retested at nearly 22+ (the potency of Manuka increases for a couple of years after harvesting)
  • Strongly antibacterial, coarse-filtered, unpasteurised, and enzyme-rich.
  • This is an artisan raw Manuka, produced by a small scale beekeeper.
  • Please note - this honey is discounted because it has reached its best before date.  As you are probably aware honey never expires (and the potency of Manuka actually increases for a few years after harvest) and the best before date is simply an indication of when the honey may crystallise - this can however be before of after the best before date.

According to the judges"This is a very intense and richly flavoured honey with a smoky brown butter taste. The finish is very smooth and clean. The flavour is so deep and unique that we believe it could be divisive but we found it really interesting. It's not something you would use in baking but it would be superb on brioche toast.

A delightfully, deeply aromatic manuka honey that evidences considerable pollen content and low processing. We enjoyed the characteristic bitterness as much as the runny texture, and found it characterful and sound...............

''''''''Deep caramel in appearance and flavour too. What a fascinating flavoured honey this is with its dark toffee, almost chocolate hints. The fact that this has the quality of Manuka and tastes so delicious is the perfect combination."

This raw Mountain Manuka honey is produced by the bees of Debbie, an artisan beekeeper, who lives in a paradise for producing premium Manuka honey.  Her hives are in an area surrounded by Native Forest in the Mount Bruce Conservation Reserve. Here wild Manuka grows up the mountainside. And the Ruamahunga river provides fresh mountain water for the bees to drink.

This helps the bees produce the highest grade Manuka — only for use medicinally. One or two spoonfuls a day is our recommendation.

The Manuka is unlike the Manuka from the bigger NZ companies who buy their honey from many different honey producers - and blend it together. This is a single source Manuka.

All of Debbie's Manuka honey is independently certified in NZ, through a government scheme to guarantee the quality at a time when there is so much fake Manuka on the market.

Colour: This honey has a beautiful colour. In the light, it has a rich, medium-amber colour, with a warm, reddish hue.

About the beekeeper:  Debbie came upon beekeeping by accident, after discovering two wild swarms on her land. She rapidly developed a deep love of beekeeping. Debbie has a genuine love for her bees and this helps in producing an amazing quality raw Manuka honey. Bees are sensitive and respond well when treated with kindness.

Please know that raw honey does crystallise and this is a natural process that occurs mainly due to the natural glucose in raw honey. For more information on why honey sets visit this article and for a more scientific explanation go to wikipediaPlease note that this a raw Manuka. Often Manuka’s are heated and creamed, which gives the Manuka a much smoother consistency. You will find that when this raw Manuka crystallises there are sometimes larger crystals in it, which is related to its rawness and the nature of a high activity Manuka.
