Description

A beautiful set for lovers of premium Greek produce.

Handmade terracotta flagon containing 500ml of Extra Virgin Olive Oil, 490g jar of Raw Artisan Greek Orange Blossom honey and the wonderfully aromatic oregano herb (30g bag).

Spyros' Extra Virgin Olive Oil is a superior quality olive oil obtained directly from olives, hand-picked and cold-pressed to create an exceptional and sustainable product. It has a unique rich flavour and is perfect for drizzling over dishes such as salads, pasta and soups. We love its smooth, herbaceous yet elegant taste with hints of wild asparagus. Good for your table and your health!

Now it has been paired with Eilias' hand made terracotta flagons. Elias has a small pottery workshop close to where Thomas lives. His is a traditional craft and style that has been passed to him from his father and through many generations.  He has been working flat out to create these flagons for you and other customers. The flagon holds 500ml of Olive Oil and measures 19cm high x 12cm wide.

Spyros' olive groves are close to a place called Agios Konstanntionos in Greece. It's a beautiful place where there is no pollution or contamination, with sheep and goat herds roaming.

Spyros is a 75-year-old gentleman who has a heritage that stretches back hundreds of years - giving him a wealth of experience and knowledge about how to produce the best olive oil imaginable. His olive groves have been cultivated for many many generations. Before him his father, and right back to the 16th century. Some of his trees are 500 years old and none are younger than 300 years. Spyros said that these trees have only remained productive because they have been pruned and cared for consistently since they were first planted. That is the secret to the longevity of his trees - and one of the main reasons why his olive oil is so high quality.

The honey is 100% raw, natural, unpasteurised and incredibly tasty. Antibacterial, coarse-filtered, unheated, enzyme-rich and all natural.

It is bought to us by our Greek beekeeper Thomas and his family. He has great enthusiasm for raw honey and natural hive products - taking great pride in producing honey in a traditional way, without adding or taking away anything

Thomas' Raw Orange Blossom honey is more intense than most Orange Blossom honeys. It has the slightly bitter sweetness of the orange jam that surrounds the peel in marmalade. One of the best Orange Blossom honeys we have tasted.  Orange Blossom is normally a favourite of children and those who enjoy sweet and sunny honey flavours. It has a citric aroma and a hint of creamy vanilla.

This Greek Orange Blossom is harvested in the orangeries of the Laconian country, in the Peloponnese (where the ancient Spartans used to live).

The Mediterranean area is famed for its wide variety of orange blossom honey, ranging from very clear light honey from small oranges to potent flavourful orange blossom honey with a prominent taste of orange - such as this one from Thomas.

Orange blossom honey is particularly good to use in different recipes, such as: salad dressings, yogurts, glazes for meats and to add a unique zing to a dish. It makes a wonderful paring with the olive oil and oregano.

Oregano. Thomas has sent us some bags of dried Oregano with his honey.  It has been collected by a lady he knows called Eleni from the Mountain peaks of Koziakas.  It is wonderfully aromatic, which you can even smell through the bag! Thomas tell us that traditionally, people in Greece make a drink with Oregano to soothe various health problems. From complaints such as coughs, colds and sore throats to nausea and stomach upsets.

We love it it combined with Sypros' olive oil to make a delicious salad dressing. Whatever you wish to use it for, we think its a great addition to this Greek set.

Please know that raw honey does crystallise and this is a natural process that occurs mainly due to the natural glucose in raw honey. For more information on why honey sets visit this article and for a more scientific explanation go to wikipedia.
