Speciality Creamed Raw Honey Set - Coarse-filtered, unpasteurised, and enzyme-rich
A speciality set of 3x960g jars of raw creamed honeys from the remote Mountains and forests of Asturias - a green and unspoilt area in the north of Spain. Raw, natural and one of the purest honeys because of the remote area it comes from.
The set contains a 960g jar of Creamed Chestnut, Creamed Heather and Creamed Eucalyptus with a free honey dipper.
The honeys have been cold creamed, which gives it a smooth, spreadable consistency, with a very fine crystal structure.
Luisa's Raw Creamed Chestnut Honey has deep, full bodied, slightly smoky, earthy tones, that deliver a more savoury taste than most other honeys. It has a slightly bitter taste. It has caramel notes coming in around an essence of deep, black raisins and prunes, leaving a slightly ferrous tingle on the tongue.
The strong overall flavour makes it perfect for those who love dark, strong honeys.
Colour: This honey is a light, creamy brown.
What about the plants the honey comes from? This comes from the flowers of the Sweet Chestnut Tree. It is known for being high in minerals.
Common Uses: Chestnut honey is particularly good to use to aid a sore throat or cough as well as in recipes such as rich cakes and meat glazes.
Chestnut Honey Facts: Chestnut honey tends to be a honey that is furthest away from sources of pollution, so is one of the purest honeys available.
Luisa's Raw Creamed Heather Honey is an amazingly deep tasting shrub honey with a depth of flavour similar to dark chocolate or black tea. It comes from the bees feeding on the low lying heather shrubs found on the mountainous terrain in Asturias. Despite not coming from a tree, heather honey has similar properties to a tree honey, namely its potent taste and dark colour.
More On Flavour: Luisa's raw heather honey is a classic variety. Very popular due to its superb deep earthy flavour, rich but not sickly, balsamic but not savoury. It is mildly bitter but complimented by a balanced sweetness.
Luisa's Raw Creamed Eucalyptus Honey has a light and floral flavour, with a slightly savoury, beeswax aftertaste. This is an easygoing, raw honey with a lovely, creamy texture. It is perfect for situations where a milder flavour is desired.
Colour: This honey is a pale, earthy yellow colour.
What about the tree the honey comes from? The eucalyptus tree is an evergreen, also known as eucalypto in Spanish. It is one of the fastest growing trees in the world. Its essential oil is often used in aromatherapy as a decongestant and antiseptic. The trees are mostly found in Australia but also in the Mediterranean.
Common Uses: Eucalyptus honey is particularly good to use in skin care. Its fresh clean aroma and soothing composition helps aid skin recovery and removal of blemishes, acne and spots. It is also extremely versatile in recipes such as meat glazes, cakes, flapjacks, breads and teas.
Eucalyptus Honey Facts: Eucalyptus honey is a beautiful variety with a unique composition. It contains traces of eucalyptol which gives it its fresh, revitalizing taste.
Who produces this honey? This honey comes from Luisa and her daughter Olaya. She is a beekeeper with a passion for producing raw honey of the very highest quality - with a lot attention to detail. Her honeys have a full, rich flavour typical of many products from the region. Most of her products are certified as organic.
Please know that raw honey does crystallise and this is a natural process that occurs mainly due to the natural glucose in raw honey. For more information on why honey sets visit this article and for a more scientific explanation go to wikipedia.
