Description
This is the first time we have had Avocado honey, and we only have 150 jars as the harvest was very poor this year. This honey comes from the Costa Tropical in the province of Andalucía, in the very south of Spain.
Flavour: Avocado honey is a bold honey with a strong flavour, There are similarities with other tree honeys, like Oak, but this is stronger. There is quite a distinct taste of avocado, which isn't immediate but grows in the mouth after the initial black treacle/molasses notes.
You will notice a buttery smoky feel on the tongue, and a hint of, maple syrup along with the avocado flavour.
Colour: This is a dark honey, almost black when it is runny. This current batch is runny but very thick, possibly on the point of starting to crystallise.
Who produces the honey? Jose Orantes leads a group of beekeepers who follow an ancient bee-keeping tradition in the Sierra Nevada mountain range in Andalusia, Spain. The honey from this area is so unique that it has been awarded its own Protected Designations of Origin in Spain – which is only awarded for a very few honeys. Jose is renowned for his knowledge of beekeeping and the scientific study of honey . He is a graduate of zoology and biology.
