Raw Organic Greek Sidr & Forest Flowers Honey – Mild & Buttery with Soft Vanilla Notes – Active 20+

Spring is a wonderful time for the bees. This Greek Sidr honey comes from beekeeper Menelaos, whose hives rest deep in the dense, biodiverse shrubland of northern Greece, near the Turkish border. The landscape here is alive with Sidr trees and forest flowers, including clover and various herbs in the forest clearings. All thriving without modern agriculture or pesticides. Here, the bees produce a mild, gently sweet honey with soft floral notes, a light buttery richness and a hint of vanilla. It comes with a powerful Active 20+ antimicrobial rating.

Product Highlights

  • Rare Greek Sidr honey with Forest Flowers
  • Certified Organic
  • Lab tested Active 20+ – strongly antimicrobial
  • Harvested from isolated, pesticide and herbicide free Sidr forests
  • Cold-pressed & unpasteurised
  • Antibacterial & 100% raw

Aroma

Subtle herbal notes with a whisper of vanilla and wild herbs. Clean and earthy, reflecting the purity of its forest origin.

Flavour

Soft, smooth and gently sweet. This is Sidr at its mildest: a light, buttery richness, with clover from the surrounding forest flowers keeping it delicate and softly floral. A hint of vanilla leads into a clean, easy finish. Simple, honest and very easy to love.

Colour

A deep amber glow with golden highlights. Translucent and clear, thanks to minimal filtering. Over time, natural crystallisation may occur, giving it a creamy texture.

Origin

Harvested in the wild forested borderlands of northern Greece, near Turkey. This is a protected ecosystem of ancient scrubland, thriving wildlife, and abundant Greek Sidr. With no pesticide or herbicide use or chemical based agriculture, the bees forage in a place of complete purity, producing honey that carries the essence of this very wild region.

About the beekeeper

Menelaos puts his heart into beekeeping. He spends time exploring the wild land around him, seeking out the best places for his bees to forage.

He lives close to the border with Turkey in northern Greece, where the landscape is wild shrubland with Sidr, Acacia, Oak and wild forest flowers. I have visited him in this remote area near the Turkish border, where deer graze in the clearings and wild herbs such as Oregano and Trefoil grow.

He follows traditional, sustainable beekeeping practices and recently gained organic certification.

Common Uses

  • Spoon over Greek yoghurt with walnuts or fresh berries
  • Spread on warm toast with butter
  • Stir into porridge with sliced pear and cinnamon
  • Pair with feta or an aged sheep’s cheese
  • Mix with olive oil and lemon juice to dress a salad
  • Add to herbal or black tea once it has cooled a little

🧪 What does “Active 20+” mean?

We send this honey to a lab for a "Total Activity" test, which measures antimicrobial potency against Staph aureus bacteria. This honey was tested at Active 24.5, which put it in the Active 20 range. An Active 20+ rating is exceptionally high—comparable to high-grade Manuka honey. The activity is largely due to an enzyme that produces hydrogen peroxide. Please note: the activity level is highest at testing and naturally declines over time, especially with light and heat exposure. Store in a cool, dark place to help maintain potency.

🧊 How to store your honey

Keep in a cool, dark place to protect the natural enzymes that give honey its antibacterial qualities. Avoid direct sunlight and high heat.

🍯 Why Raw Honey is Different from Processed Honey

Raw honey is pure, straight from the hive, retaining natural enzymes, pollen, and nutrients. Supermarket honey is usually pasteurised, filtered, and blended for uniformity—removing much of what makes honey unique. Every jar of raw honey is different, shaped by climate, season, and forage, making it a living reflection of its origin.

🌀 Crystallisation

Raw honey crystallises naturally (so we cannot accept returns on crystallised honey). We indicate whether the honey is runny or crystallised, but this may change. If you prefer it runny, simply warm it gently. See our Runny Honey Guide or read more.
