Looking for an Active Raw Honey to Fight off Winter Coughs and Colds?

October 23, 2025

ACTIVE 25+. We have just taken delivery of a rare & highly antibacterial Sidr & Oak honey from the Rhodope Mountains Greece — the place of one of Europe’s few true virgin forests — very ancient woodland, undisturbed by people.

  • The forest and the bees have produced a truly unique creation. Sidr nectar and Oak honeydew in the same honeycombs - two of our most potent honeys together.
  •
  • Not only is it very antibacterial but the flavour notes of the Sidr and Oak combined are deep and balanced: Oak up front, molasses and dark chocolate, rounded by Sidr’s creamy smoothness.
  • One of our most potent honeys its great for easing the misery of winter coughs and sore throats.(NHS reports flu cases earlier than previous years).
Green mountainous landscape with trees and a clear skyTim, the founder and owner of The Raw Honey Shop is always on the look out for honeys from rare and unusual places.

When he heard about the Sidr and Oak from Giorgios and the virgin forest it came from he was very excited.

The lab taste and flavour confirmed to me that it was a rare and exceptional honey.

Now this antibacterial honey, from an ancient virgin forest has arrived. You can see a video of the honey here.

This honey has been created by the bees of Giorgios from Sidr and Oak in the virgin forest on the lower slopes of the Rhodope Mountains in northern Greece.

These mountains lie in a place that is both ancient and unusual.

It is the most forested mountain place in Greece and is known as an Ice-Age refugium.

Basically what this means is that plants from before the ice age hung on here when elsewhere they were wiped out.

So in this forest there are many unique indigenous plants and herbs that you won't find elsewhere.

This varied flora helps to keep the bees strong.

Perhaps that is why the enzymes in this honey are so highly active.

Man holding a jar of honey by a windowIn this special place Giorgios bees have created an extremely bioactive honey, the actual test result was 28.5 (but we've classified it as Active 25+, the activity level does decrease over time when exposed to light and heat, so it will likely go down from 28.4 but will still be at least 25+).

A Manuka of this level of activity would cost at least £150 or more a kilo.

Now is a good time to invest in this more potent than Manuka honey because the NHS is reporting that flu levels are rising earlier than normal.

So, having a jar or two of this Active honey in your medicine cabinet will help to calm sore throats and coughs this winter.

Giorgios, the provider, is a master beekeeper whose recent Spring Pine won the top 3 star award in the Great Taste Awards.

Not only does he love bees but he also has a great knowledge of nature.

Thus his choice of this place in the virgin forest in the Rhodope Mountains.

Jar of Greek Sidr & Oak raw honey with label on a white backgroundIt is also extremely delicious.
  • TASTING NOTES: Deep oak dominates, with molasses and dark chocolate tones, rounded by the creamy smoothness of Sidr. Rich, thick, and almost confection‑like: imagine the soft centre of a toffee slice, but with earth, depth, and forest complexities.
