April 2025 Newsletter: My Journey to a 'Bee Paradise' - in an area noted By UNESCO for its Exceptionally Pure Environment.
I have just returned from Greece where I went to a place so pristine that UNESCO noted the area for its exceptionally pure environment.
The reason for this journey was because back end of last year I received a sample of honey from a beekeeper - Vasilis - whose hives are hidden deep in this mountain place - the most remote and wildest place in Greece.
The sample was exceptional and answered a long-term problem (that I will explain).
I was determined to go and see him - and use the opportunity to meet some other beekeepers and check out some new honeys (and olive oils).
Follow my journey in Greece
- First stop was another extraordinary mountain place with beekeeper Kostas & his Vanilla Fir deep in the Peloponnese (south Greece)
- Then I travelled to the mountain paradise where Vasilis' bees create the sublime Mountain honey.
- Next I discovered a range of new honeys at a Honey Fair and Food Expo in Athens, that I need your opinion on. I also sampled olive oils including one with the highest level of heart protecting polyphenols I have ever come across. (I'd like to add these to our range if there is enough interest).
- After this I went to see Egli's uniquely wild olive grove close to Mount Olympus
- Finally I sent a couple of days catching up with Thomas, Christina and their new baby, including witnessing one of the down sides of beekeeping in Greece
Please if you have any feedback don't hesitate to email me.
