Mount Olympus Mountain Honey - A Very Fine & Unique Mountain Honey from the Fabled Seat of the Gods - Active 20+

Mount Olympus, a UNESCO biosphere reserve, boasts unique flora and fauna, making the honey from this region unlike any other.

The mountain's distinct microclimate, thanks to its closeness to the sea and rapid elevation, fosters a rich diversity of terrain, climate, and vegetation. This variety provides bees with an exclusive selection of flora and tree sap, enriching the honey's complexity and flavour.

Thus, the honey from Mount Olympus is a direct reflection of this biodiversity, capturing a wide array of flavours and aromas, making it truly unparalleled and a testament to the mountain's ecological wealth.

Its status as a UNESCO site underscores the pristine, untouched nature of its ecosystem, which contributes to the distinctive qualities of the honey produced here.

Key Features:

  • Cold-Pressed: Retains natural enzymes and nutrients.
  • Lab tested Active 20+ – strongly antimicrobial
  • Unpasteurized: Preserves natural flavours and health benefits.
  • Coarse-Filtered: Ensures purity while keeping beneficial pollen.
  • 100% Raw: Maintains all natural properties.
  • Wilderness Honey: Sourced from the untamed habitats of Mount Olympus.
  • Artisan Beekeeping: Crafted with traditional methods for superior quality.
  • Unique Monofloral Honey from a unique environment: A rare taste experience.

In 2023, despite challenges in many parts of Greece affecting Oak honey production due to unusual weather patterns, our dedicated beekeeper, Dimitris, managed to harvest a special batch from higher elevations on Mount Olympus, rather than his normal Mount Olympus Forest.

This variant is slightly lighter, infused with the essence of mountain herbs and less honeydew from Oak, yet maintaining many of the same beloved characteristics of his Mount Olympus Forest, which he wasn't able to produce because of the rainy weather washing off much of the honeydew from the Mountain Oaks.

This honey has a complex flavour profile, enriched by the indigenous herbs and flowers of Mount Olympus along with some Oak, Fir and Pine forests (including trees like the rare Bosnian Pine). The flavour begins with earthy undertones, evolving into a spicy finish that lingers.

Colour - Dark brown.

Common Uses Being such a rich deep honey it's great at breakfast time, either on porridge,  buttered toast, or just enjoyed straight from the spoon!

🧪 What does “Active 20+” mean?

We send this honey to a lab for a "Total Activity" test, which measures antimicrobial potency against Staph aureus bacteria. An Active 20 rating is exceptionally high—comparable to high-grade Manuka honey. The activity is largely due to an enzyme that produces hydrogen peroxide. Please note: the activity level is highest at testing and naturally declines over time, especially with light and heat exposure. Store in a cool, dark place to help maintain potency.

🧊 How to store your honey

Keep in a cool, dark place to protect the natural enzymes that give honey its antibacterial qualities. Avoid direct sunlight and high heat.

🍯 Why Raw Honey is Different from Processed Honey

Raw honey is pure, straight from the hive, retaining natural enzymes, pollen, and nutrients. Supermarket honey is usually pasteurised, filtered, and blended for uniformity—removing much of what makes honey unique. Every jar of raw honey is different, shaped by climate, season, and forage, making it a living reflection of its origin.

🌀 Crystallisation

Raw honey crystallises naturally (so we cannot accept returns on crystallised honey). We indicate whether the honey is runny or crystallised, but this may change. If you prefer it runny, simply warm it gently. See our Runny Honey Guide or read more.

Please note we cannot accept returns on this honey due to its size. If your tub or tin arrives slightly damaged and leaking, we are happy to give you a partial refund on the amount of honey you feel has been lost. Unfortunately, we cannot replace whole tins or tubs unless more then 50% of the honey has been lost. We would then request you send us pictures so that we can assess the damage and agree the replacement.
