Active 25 Organic Forest Honey from Mount Kissavos – Rich & Bioactive

Discover the exceptional Active 25 Organic Forest Honey from the pristine slopes of Mount Kissavos, a Natura 2000 Reserve in central Greece. Crafted by master beekeeper Kostas, this rare raw honey is celebrated for its dark, treacly flavour, bold character, and naturally high bioactive rating of 25, giving it antibacterial strength comparable to Manuka honey. A true reflection of Greek biodiversity and beekeeping tradition.

Product Highlights

  • Bioactive rating of 25 – potent antibacterial properties
  • Certified Organic, harvested in the Mount Kissavos Natura 2000 Reserve
  • Crafted by Kostas, former head of the Greek Beekeepers Association
  • Raw, coarse-filtered, cold-pressed, unpasteurised
  • Treacly, complex flavour from oak, chestnut & fir trees
  • Rare dark forest honey, naturally resistant to crystallisation
  • Sustainably sourced & produced with traditional methods

Aroma

Rich, earthy woodland notes with hints of caramel, roasted nuts, and subtle herbal tones, carrying the freshness of wild mountain herbs.

Flavour

Bold, treacly, and layered with depth. Oak and chestnut bring dark, malty undertones, balanced by delicate floral hints from wild oregano, chamomile, and other mountain herbs. Smooth, powerful, and versatile.

Colour

A deep, dark brown with amber glints. Thick in texture, it remains smooth and pourable thanks to its naturally low glucose content, which delays crystallisation.

Origin

Harvested from the unspoiled forests of Mount Kissavos in central Greece, part of the Natura 2000 network of protected areas. This biodiverse landscape provides Kostas’ bees with a rich diet from oak, chestnut, and fir trees, producing honey of remarkable purity and potency.

The Beekeeper: Kostas

Kostas is a master beekeeper and a respected figure in Greece’s beekeeping community. As a former head of the Greek Beekeepers Association, he has dedicated decades to advancing sustainable apiculture. His family shares his passion—his daughter is pursuing a PhD in social insects, continuing their beekeeping legacy. Each jar reflects his commitment to quality, sustainability, and respect for the bees.

Common Uses

  • Stir into warm lemon water for a natural daily health tonic
  • Pair with Greek yoghurt, walnuts & olive oil for a classic Mediterranean treat
  • Drizzle over porridge, granola, or energy bars for natural sweetness
  • Brush over roasted carrots, parsnips, or pumpkin as a glaze
  • Mix with garlic & ginger for a rich marinade for meat or tofu

What does "Active" mean?

This honey has undergone a Total Activity test to measure its antimicrobial power against bacteria such as Staphylococcus aureus. With a rating of 25, it ranks among the most potent natural honeys available. This activity comes mainly from a bee enzyme that produces hydrogen peroxide. Note: the activity level is highest at testing and gradually decreases, especially if exposed to heat or light. Store in a cool, dark place to preserve it.

🧊 How to store your honey

Store in a cool, dark place to maintain enzyme potency and texture. Avoid light and heat to preserve its rich character.

🍯 Why Raw Honey is Different from Processed Honey

Raw honey is untouched from hive to jar—no heating, no blending, no heavy filtering. It retains pollen, enzymes, antioxidants, and colour; every jar reflects its unique ecosystem and season.

🌀 Crystallisation

Crystallisation is natural—not a flaw, thus not eligible for return. We do state “runny” or “crystallised,” but conditions may change. See our Runny Honey Guide or FAQs for decrystallisation tips.
